Celeste

I’d been in charter planes, on first class flights, and even a few expensive yachts. I had yet to get into a Learjet. Royce’s type of money was something even I couldn’t fathom. In just a few hours, we were banking into Belize, and I wished we had left earlier in the day so I could have seen it in the sunlight.

The sky was so clear and the moon was big enough that I felt like I could reach out and pull it from the sky. I could smell the sea and hear waves crashing on the shore as we exited the plane on a private air strip. Closing my eyes, I took it all in. This was paradise. Another world where who we are didn't matter. We were just Royce and Celeste, a man and a woman finding their path to each other. To feel this sort of peace every day...

I took a deep breath, letting the salty air fill my lungs.

“We aren’t there yet,” Royce said and I opened my eyes. He smiled at me softly, our bags in his hands. A sleek black car was waiting and the trunk was open.

“It’s already better than anything I’ve ever experienced.”

“Let me see if I can top that,” he said. As the driver got out of the car Royce dropped the bags onto the floor.

Two steps. That’s all it took for me to be his arms. Under the moonlight, in the space between the real world and fantasy, his mouth claimed mine. In his embrace I caught on fire as he pulled me tighter to him, crushing my breasts against his chest. I wrapped my arms around him and nipped his bottom lip. He nipped mine back, chuckling before sucking the offended lip into his mouth. His tongue traced the dents from his teeth before slipping deeper and gliding against mine.

Perfect. This was perfect. He broke the kiss and placed a small peck to my forehead.

“Better?”

“Much.”

He laughed and took my hand, walking me to the car. I got in, followed by Royce, and the driver closed the door behind us. In minutes, we were pulling out of the hangar and onto the streets. The faces of buildings were lit up with colorful lights, washing the black sky with a rainbow show. I stared out the window, taking it all in.

Tourists roamed the streets as musicians played their instruments on the corners and dancers shook their hips to the beat. The steady thump of the drums sung to my heart, making it pound. But even that disappeared as we continued on, driving passed the lights and into woods of palm trees.

The water was closer now and we were just a stone’s throw away from the coast. I’d seen the ocean before; I lived in California. But here it was different. The water was so clear where the lights were in it, glowing red and yellow in spots.

“Why do they do that?” I asked.

The driver turned his head to look at Royce and Royce nodded, letting him answer.
